The three highest multiple intelligences that I received were in the categories of musical, naturalist, and existential. Within these three division there are many jobs that could be perfect for these kinds of people. Musical mainly focuses on my ability to keep a beat, or be in tune, generally understanding the world of music more naturally. The naturalist part focuses on me having a love for nature, and doing everything I can in my power to preserve it. And the existential part refers to me having the ability to see the "big picture", to look into the beyond instead of focusing on the here and now. Based on my assessment, there was a list of careers that would be suited for my results. I found some interesting that pertained to me, such as, fish and game wardens, park naturalists, environmental science and protection technician, and my favorite, forestry and conservation teacher/technician. I really want to find a job that allows me to give back to Mother Earth, and really all that she does for us. I feel more people should be concerned with having a sustainable environment, as without the environment there is no life for our kind, or any kind.
ReplyDeleteThere are many government jobs in wildlife/fish & game that you could start out as a GS2 or GS3 with the opportunity to advance quickly, earn a pension, vacation time, health insurance, and other advantages that being a government employee can provide. The wages in a GS job to start out aren't very high, but you get a raise every year, and always have the opportunity for promotion. The benefits outweigh the wages, so is something to consider. I went back east last fall, and visited the John Adams house--- believe it or not, this historic site was a national park, staffed with government employees. San Diego has a number of these, including the Cabrillo National Monument. The Park Service is a noble job with great benefits. And there are opportunities nationwide. usajobs.gov is the place to start...
DeleteGood luck Marley!!!
That is awesome information! I hadn't really looked into anything in San Diego yet as I am hoping to get to move to Oregon next summer and finish my schooling there, as well as find a job. I am going to be applying for the Department of Forestry in Eugene if all goes as planned. But I really should have included the possibilities that I might not get to leave, and I should be prepared for finding a job if that were to be the case. Thank you so much for sharing this information. It definitely sparked a new train of thought in my mind that I hadn't thought of yet!
DeleteThanks Tiffany!!
Hello Marley,
DeleteI totally agree with you that there are several highest multiple intelligence. In addition, ‘Linguistic‘ and ‘Logical-Mathematical‘ Intelligence are the two intelligence we are all familiar with, because they were taught and tested in the school system, and used to measure IQ. It looks like the Intelligence Quotient commonly known as our IQ may soon be an outmoded way to measure intelligence. Also, Different Multiple Intelligence are used in different jobs. Guess what kind of intelligence a guitar-player needs? What about a gymnast, or a hockey player? For example, if you were one of those people who were mathematically challenged, or had difficulty with grammar or writing essays, you can take heart. You most likely favor a different kind of intelligence, that wasn’t taught in the School System. Now is your chance to find out which of all these intelligence you excel in.
Hi Mina!
DeleteI definitely agree that there is much more to life than what we learned in school! I am totally trying to find myself as a human being, here at 25 years old, because I became to in depthly attached to the "high school" way of life. And it is true, most of the things I have learned in high school haven't been much of an aid since becoming an adult and hitting the real world. Yes, I have a high school diploma, but I really don't know how to cook or clean efficiently, and have no desire to focus on the little things. I am hoping that I can find a job that will suit my desires and that I can thrive off a non logical intelligence. As you said, I just have to find which of these intelligences I succeed in.
Write about your experiences in college so far. Have you been able to apply anything learned in this class?
ReplyDeleteMy first experience in college dates back to 2002. I went in not knowing who I was, or what it would take to achieve my goals. I had a larger goal I wanted to accomplish, but I felt dropped off in a strange place and time without any real skills with which to achieve it. I didn’t last long before I dropped out, defeated and depressed. Since starting at Cuyamaca (Round 2!), I’ve had great success. Life experience has given me the skills that high school and my parents did not, so that I am confident I will be successful this time around. So far, from this class, the most interesting/applicable thing has been specific information about my personality. Two of my aspects are in the direct middle (I/E and S/N). I learned new insights into myself, why I struggle with some things I do, and what things are simply inherent to my personality. I shared the new things I learned with my husband as well, which he found interesting and I think gave him a different perspective on some of my “quirks”. It was also very comforting to learn that there ARE others like me- some of my traits can feel very isolating at times, so the fact that they were easily identified by an online test made me feel like I wasn’t so “weird” after all. I am continuing reading about my personality independently and how my tendencies affect my career and personal life. I think this knowledge will prove incredibly beneficial to the future in navigating “bumpy patches”.
Comment on a successful decision you have made and how it matches your values.
The decision to buy our house in 2014 was a big one. I had just given birth to my daughter and we were spilling out of our current rental home. My son was having a hard time adjusting to the new baby, and in knowing that we wouldn’t last long where we were, I felt it would be better for him for us to move sooner rather than later so it wasn’t one change after another. It was hard on me physically and emotionally to pack and move with an infant only a few months old, but my value of “family first” really came into play. The new house we found would be better for my kids in every way: 1) We would own it instead of rent it, which would lend to a sense of stability and permanence. 2) It was in a great school district. 3) It had more room, inside and outside, for kids to play. There was also the financial strain of having just paid our high insurance deductible for all the hospital bills. But I was determined to not let anything get in the way of what was best for my kids and in providing the best for them no matter what. Two years later, I can definitely say this was a successful decision. My son adjusted to his new school beautifully and is doing better academically and socially than ever before. We have enough space to exist peacefully and not trip over each other, causing needless aggravation. My husband has really enjoyed taking ownership of our property- something he didn’t feel when we were renting. And for me- I’m so happy to see my family happy and to have been able to put my values first, even during a very trying time!
These are good examples of making decisions based on your values and they turned out well for you and your family. Good job!

ReplyDeleteMy highest multiple intelligences and what careers do they suggest...
My top 3 are:
Linguistic
Musical
Interpersonal
Based on these, my top 5 suggested occupations are:
Audio and Video Equipment Technicians
Public Address System and Other Announcers
Radio and Television Announcers
Music Directors
Art, Drama, and Music Teachers, Postsecondary
OK-- So, I worked in radio (Clear Channel) for 6 years. What I can say about radio is that, good luck if you or your show survives 18 months, because you're about to be out of a job. I started in radio promotions and was quickly promoted to assistant producer on the Stacy Taylor morning show on KLSD. Not only was my show cancelled but our entire station was reformatted to sports, and I was out of a job. I get that this is a personality vs. occupation assessment, however, I will never go back to radio if my life depended on it.
I'm also not trying to be a car stereo installer, nor a high school music teacher. I'm trying to make a little more than $15/hr. This assessment was not very valuable to me - but that's ok. There have been other assessments which have been much more valuable.
Thanks!
These assessments are a beginning point to think about your strengths. It is always a good idea to question them. Hopefully the personality assessment had some additional ideas to consider. I agree that it is important to find a career that provides good opportunities for employment and pays enough to live the life you want to live. Keep looking for other options. One idea is to make an appointment with the career counselor at Cuyamaca, Cindy Morrin. She is also familiar with these assessments.

ReplyDeleteOMG.
First - my college experience has been amazing. I've been in since Spring 16 (3 whole semesters!) and have a 4.0 so far, so thank goodness for easy classes over the spring and summer. My first class was English Composition, and that class has spring-boarded my public speaking class this year. The essays and research I needed for English has made Public Speaking class a breeze. I had a tough instructor which was great for having taken a 20 year hiatus from school.
This counseling class has been a mind-blower. I started off very unsure of my major. I had declared "paralegal" as my major, but wasn't sure if that was my real passion. What I have learned is that dealing with people and being independent ARE my strengths, and whether I do that as an independent legal document reviewer/filer, or pursue some entrepreneurial dream job- as long as I focus on my strengths I will be happy and fulfilled. This class isn't just about finding our major... it's about learning who WE are, and finding balance and happiness utilizing what we are naturally inclined to do. How close to Nirvana can we get?
Yes, this course is all about finding your personal strengths and how they fit in the job market. No one has called it nirvana before, but I like your enthusiasm.
DeleteMy experience in college as a second semester student has been great and even greater than I ever imagined. Last semester, just a few days before I started my college trip, I feared it so much! I thought I was not going to be able to do well and get high grades like other people, I feared failing and not being able to achieve my goals, but after the first semester everything changed! I believed in myself and my abilities of getting my school work done and in a very efficient way! College has been impacting my life greatly and I am truly thankful for all the opportunities I have that some people wish to have and are willing to give up so much to get it. In my opinion, people should like education more often and realize the importance of it because from my experience, I learned if you do not love what you do, you will not achieve it.
ReplyDeleteThat is so very true, if you don't love what you are doing, you will likely not achieve it. Or at least this is a very true statement for myself, I can relate because if I don't feel completely involved in what I am doing at the time, I have a habit of walking away from it completely.
DeleteThat is awesome that you have found your college zen. I finally found mine this year and it feels amazing. I am happy for you and your determined ability to want to get your education. Sometimes the hardest part of doing anything is showing up, people can become fearful and anxious of things, such as school, and that causes them to not even show up. Then they will never know what you know, which is that you CAN do it, and you can be successful. That is a great feeling to have! I wish you all the luck in the world to finish school and to never lose your confidence!
Hello Mina,
DeleteI agree with you about people should care about education because when there is no education, there is no good future. For example, half of the quit school for some reasons and later on they end up working at McDonald's or other places like these. I believe people should care about the future more and even their life is not good they should try at least. To be honest, the first semester that I attended I was so happy because I had my friends with me and it was all fun, But now everytime I go I feel so bored because I don’t have friends with me and half of the people don’t like to communicate.
This is a good point about learning to love what you do. It all begins with searching for something interested that can relate you your personal life.
DeleteWrite about your experiences in college so far. Have you been able to apply anything learned in this class?
ReplyDeleteI had a very rough start to college in 2009, after I graduated with honors from Steele Canyon, doing pretty well in high school, everyone figured college would be a breeze for me. It wasn't though, I had an awakening of sorts when I stopped taking my ADHD meds at age 19, that I had been on my whole life. I wanted to travel and see things, to find myself. So college went on the back burner after I spent 1.5 years on "trying" by registering for classes and then dropping out half way through, taking an F for each class. I have been much more receptive this time around. I am on welfare, so I qualified for the S.T.E.P.S. program and they have been absolutely fantastic in helping me do the things I need to do to be successful. I have applied for disability this time around, which I really needed in 2009, but I didn't want to admit it. I have been approved and am really on a track for success this time. I started by taking 2 summer courses this summer, online of course, and I completed both of them and received an A and a B. I knew then that I was ready to tackle this, to get the degree I deserve, and to provide for my family the way I should be. This class has been a god-send, I really needed to lay out my strengths and weaknesses in an organized fashion and discover who I am in a career path kind of way. I enjoyed the personality project so much, and I am so happy that I completed it. That has been a problem of mine in the past, starting things and never finishing them. I discovered that is a part of my in depth personality, and I have been pushing myself harder than ever now to make sure I do all of my homework, and turn in all of my assignments. I am grateful for this class and all that I have learned to be successful, and of course all that I will continue to learn.
Hi Marley, ADHD can really impede school. I see this with my son and the difference between when he was off meds and on meds is shocking. Beyond just doing well in classes, his ADHD affects his self-esteem because of feeling like he doesn't have control of himself, and how his peers perceive him because of this. He hates that he is "different" and often expresses that he wishes he didn't need to take medication, although he definitely sees and likes the benefits. I have a feeling there will be a period in his life, too, where he will get off the meds by his own choice to see what happens. I'm very happy for you that you've been able to "right the ship" as they say and that you have found good resources. As a mother, I'm already preparing myself to let my son go through this struggle if he feels he needs to, and support him as he comes out the other side when he's ready. Growing up is hard enough when you don't have a disability. Its extra, extra hard when you do. I hope you have people who love and care about you to tell you how proud they are of your re-dedication.
DeleteI am actually very blessed and have had a wonderful support system thus far. My mom has always been my biggest fan and even though I spent a lot of time thinking everything that happened to me was her fault, have grown up and am just really glad that she still supports me and roots for me. I had a hard time with my ADHD, a lot of people are misdiagnosed, but I was a poster child, as doctors put it, for how much the medicine helped me. I was a terror child growing up, and was just too smart for my own good. I could have gotten myself hurt many times. Even through school, the teachers could tell when I didn't have my meds on any given day, I was a totally different person. Without my meds I was angry, irritable, and reckless. I remember one day in fourth grade at recess, I climbed a tree, and refused to come down for the aides. When the principal came down to talk to me, I flipped her off and flashed her, by lifting my shirt. This was the type of "normal" behavior I exhibited when not on the medications. I understand how much the meds helped me now, but I definitely had a few years, once off the meds, that I blamed my mom for having me on medication my whole life. It was a "hard pill to swallow", pun intended, that my mom had me on medication my whole life, and I had no say. I hope you can have a better conversation with your son about coming off of the medication, it was definitely a hard transition for myself. I really wish you much luck on finding and building a bond with your son in relation to the medication. Do the research, and truly understand, as much as you can, the effects the medication can have on your son! He will totally love you for it one day. My mom still doesn't understand the meds I was on, even though I have explained in to her a million times. What meds is your son on, if you don't mind me asking, you don't have to answer, I just might have some insight!
DeleteGlad you hear that you are back on track and being successful in college. Life is a dangerous opportunity in that we learn from the challenges life presents.
DeleteMy experience in college so has been good, but the first semester that I attended was better. For example, when I had classes with friends I used to enjoy college more and used to work hard because as a team we work harder. Now, college is getting really serious, attending classes with no one I know it is kind of hard. The thing is some of the students don’t like to communicate and the class gets bored. Also, working independent sometimes is hard because if you don’t get the task you have no one to ask. But this class, I liked it a lot and I learned a lot from it especially about having the positive attitude and brain.
ReplyDeleteThe most important value is happiness. Happiness is where you find the better life. When you are not happy you don't have a good life. I have experienced this in my life, I have had not a happy life and I know how it feels when you are not happy in your life. I always used to ask God why I’m not the happiest person alive and why everyone else is happy, but I was wrong because no one is happy everyone has something in their lives. If we want to achieve a happy life, we should try hard and be good people because happiness doesn't come easily.
Hi Swaleen,
DeleteI understand where you are coming from because I have a Math class that is quiet and the people do a lot of their work on their own. Also I do not know to many people in the class mainly because the lack of communication in class. Which I agree makes the class boring and I start my losing interest and focus. It totally does help when you have a friend in the class to share ideas with and help each other out.
I also like your second paragraph where you talk about happiness, because I believe that happiness is a huge value to have in life. It is something that everyone is trying to accomplish and as long as we do things that we love, with people we love we can all achieve happiness.
I have often thought about what happiness means since students often say that it is one of their most important goals. Psychologists have begun to study happiness and I have included this topic in the last chapter. I think that the beginning step is thinking about what happiness means to you and then set some goals to achieve it.
DeleteWrite about your experiences in college so far. Have you been able to apply anything learned in this class?
ReplyDeleteSo far college has been okay. I thought it would be kind of a joke but its much harder than I thought. It feels weird doing most of my assignments online, as I was so used to the highschool way of doing assignments. From this class, I have learned what type of person I actually am. I have applied the ways of thinking that Ive learned from this class into my daily routine and it has helped a lot. I am really glad I took this class, as it is actually helping me organize myself. Hopefully I'll be able to use these organizational techniques throughout the next few years of college.
What is your most important value in life and how are you acting on this value to achieve your life goals?
The most important value in my life is religion. I just want to make god happy by following his ways and being faithful. I use my religion as my guide throughout my life. I base a lot of my decisions upon my religion. My life and family were shaped by our faith in God, and we live life according to his laws.
Hi Theo,
DeleteI am like you when sharing values my religion is very important. I just want what is best for me and the only person who can help me is God.
Do you have any other values that shape who you are?
Glad you are finding this course helpful in better understanding yourself and how to be successful in college. Keep up the good work.
DeleteWhat is your most important value in life and how are you acting on this value to achieve your life goals?
ReplyDeleteMy most important value in life would revolve around my religion, family, and academics. These values shape me. Concerning my religion my life goals are reached not only through hard work but my faith (I am sorry if I am offending someone). My family supports my decisions and the encourages me try as hard as I can in school so I can succeed in the future.
Comment on a successful decision you have made and how it matches your values.
A successful decision I've made was to stay in San Diego and go to community college and eventually switch to a four year. This matches my values because what surrounds me is what defines me. I can continue to go my favorite church with my family. I can keep myself surrounded by people who support me because I stayed for college. In my academics this is a cheaper cost for education and it is the same as a four year because I am completing my general education.
Going to a community college is a good choice for many reasons including cost, quality education, and staying near family and friends. It all works great as long as you plan your transfer carefully. Work with a counselor to make sure your are taking the correct courses for transfer.
Deletethe most important value I have in my life is a sense of family! Family not only means a lot to me but it also means a lot of things to me! family means unconditional love, happiness, security, loyalty ,community, and so so much more! I believe I stay true to this very strong value always! not only is my intermediate family important like my husband and my five children , but my extended family is very important to me as well! its important to me to lay a very strong foundation for my children so when there older they will always have a strong sense of connection with all there family members ! Family may not always be what you want and what you expect them to be but they are all you will ever need!
ReplyDeleteBy having this strong sense of family that I value you so much you have to be a very good communicator and be able to be almost a chameleon in a way of dealing with a variety of personality's and excepting the members of your family for who they are with out getting feelings hurt! I believe because i'm so good at being the family mediator and communicator between all six of my siblings and with other family member's this will help me in my career as a social worker! the idea of being able to pass on the importance of family and friendship and healthy relationships to other people makes my heart so utterly happy!
Being a family mediator is good experience for being a social worker. It is a good way to use your strengths. Our society would be better if we took better care of our families.
DeleteMy collage experience has been a pleasant struggle! I defiantly thought my collage experience would be a different type of struggle , more of having a hard time with the learning material! but really the struggle that I have is more with finances and time management with my children's husbands and my schedules all being in line with each other and flowing well. I no that if I keep playing with schedules and learning how to put a little more money away thing will get a lil easier for me. But for right now Ill take this type of struggle 100% , if this is all the struggle I in counter while I'm in school then I no I will secede and go on to do my life's calling!
ReplyDeleteEducation is worth the struggle, but think about just taking one or two classes at a time if you get overwhelmed.
DeleteBecause I was able to take an assessment test on my personality it was help full to me to understand some of the thing I need to work on to be able to be more successful with saving a lil more money for school and the things I need and it also showed me how to work on time management a little better ! Its nice to see that thing that I thought were bad traits of mine are not bad at all I'm just not applying them to my life the way I should so it can work for me and so I can become more successful and lead a happier and healthier life style!
ReplyDeleteMy most important value is having financial security along with making something out of my life and sense of family. I feel like I can't have one with out doing the other so both of these values are equally important to me and I am doing it all so that me and my family can have a better future. These values are important to me because I want a better life for my kids as well as myself. Growing up I faced many challenges that was the offset of the struggles that my mother had raising me and siblings. Yes these struggles have followed me into my adulthood but I can do something about it, I don't have to repeat the cycle of struggle and I surely don't want this way of life passed off to my children. We deserve better, and I am going to work for it no matter how hard it will be. In the end I will have something to show for all my efforts so I know it will be worth it. To achieve my goals I plan on getting through college so that I can have the opportunity to have a career that I love and that will also provide financial security for my family. I have nothing to lose and a better future to gain plus my kids are watching so I want to set a good example for them as well.
ReplyDeleteThese are important goals and you have the motivation to achieve them. Good job!
DeleteBased on the interest profiler my highest interests is social. People with a social interest can be described as people who would rather communicate more than working with objects or machinery. We are hands on and like to teach or give advice to others and is always willing to give a helping hand to others when needed. Because of my social interest I am inclined to pick a career that I can use my social skills in. My top three choices are nursing, teaching, or social work! The only reason I can't decide is because I can see myself highly enjoying what I do in all three of these careers which is making a difference in the lives of others so it's tough for me to choose when I love the idea of all three work fields. However, I do know that I will be able to do what I love to do most which is help people so no matter which career I choose to obtain there is no wrong choice here because all of them match my social interest. Either way I would be in contact with people, big and small or maybe even both using my passion to be involved with the improvement of others life and I would be happy with my choice as long as I get to do just that.

ReplyDeleteSo far my college experience has been going well. This class has helped me to stay focused and on track. Part of it is because this class has its assignments due every Sunday so that gets me ready for the rest of the week. I have also looked at people and all the situations I have been so far to a different point of view. I may not enjoy school all the time but it is fun sometimes, but most importantly, school is important because it is where you can fulfill your dreams. I have many dreams and wishes and hopefully school can help me accomplish them.
Glad this course is helping you to stay focused and on track.
DeleteMy most important value in life is Happiness. It is very hard to find happiness especially with all the hate in the world. There is hate everywhere, social media, tv, books. Sometimes it is indirect. Such as when people make fun of athletes for having one bad game. Sometimes we forget that they are only human. In this case the athlete has everything he has ever dreamed of. But when fans and other people start to hate or complain about the player, now the player feels as if he is not good. The person with everything always seems to be the most unhappy person.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good observation about happiness. Often the people who have the most are not happy. We will learn more about this topic in the last chapter.
DeleteMy experience in college as a forth semester student it is greater than I ever thought before I started my college trip I was so feared . because I have 5 children and I do not have time to study . but I decide to make my dream true because when you something you love it you can do it better and I feel so happy when I get high grades like other students . I think Education is very important for everybody it can change your life since I start my trip in college I learned that I can change every thing in my life if I just believe I can do it.
ReplyDeleteNADIA WE CAN DO WHATEVR IT IS THAT WE PUT OUR MINDS TO. I AM A RETURNING COLLEGE STUDENT. ONE THING I NOW KNOW IS TO NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER STOP GOING TO SCHOOL. I HAD MANY SETBACK AND INSTEAD OF ALLIOWING THE SETBACKS TO BE MY EXCUSE TO DROP OUT I SHOULD HAVE MADE THE SETBACKS MY VERY PURPOSE FOR STAYING IN SCHOOL. I DONT CARE WHAT COMES MY WAY TODAY. AS LONG THERE IS TECHNOLOGY AND I HAVE A COMPUTER I CAN TAKE A CLASS. EVEN IF I DIDN’T HAVE A COMPUTER COLLEGES AND LIBRARIES DO. MY POINT IS IF THERE IS A WILL THERES A WAY. MY BOYFIREND ALWAYS SAY STEADY WINS. I TRY AND APPLY THS TO MY EDUCATION AS WELL. I COULD TAKE ONE CLASS THE REST OF MY COLLEGE LIFE. IT MAY TAKE ME LONGER BUT I WOULD STILL HAVE A DEGREE.
DeleteMy most important value is Education. My long term educational goal is to obtain my college degree. Education is important to me because I know I will be more successful with an education than without one. I was raised by my elders who didn't have more than a Elementary level of education and their struggles were real. I have much to learn but I couldn't imagine day to day life without the basics like reading and writing and counting .It hurts me to think of how many times they possibly were taken advantage of because of their lack of education. The bright side is I now have he advantage. One necessary step to accomplishing my long term goal is to successfully pass this course and many more
ReplyDeleteI can see that your experience is a good motivator to be successful in college. You are on your way to success with each course completed.
Delete2) My college experience so far has been going well. I have been getting the hang of all of it as the days go by and its making me less stressed which is always a plus. I am really grateful for this class because it has already helped me on my future career in what i want to do with my life later which was what I was worried about coming into school not knowing what I was going to do. And it takes a big weight off your shoulders and it helps me stay focused and discover more interest that this case helped me do. Also, I did think this college was going to be hard one because it was going to be something very different, but the fact that I believed in myself and have been giving it my best its good to see the results in my achievements and it just makes my college experience so far even more successful.
ReplyDelete-Cinthya Jimenez
Keep believing in yourself and giving it your best and I am sure you will accomplish your dreams and be successful.
DeleteMy most important value in life is to never doubt myself and stay positive. I always had a problem with doubting myself and at the end of the day it was nothing, just a thought holding me back but I learned to not let that get in the way. In life you always have to take risks to make something happen and nothing is ever sure but thats how you find out. At the end of the day everything happens for a reason and you have to learn to trust yourself and trust your instincts. Thats what I value, to always trust myself and never doubt myself in anything because only I know what I am capable of and what i can achieve.
ReplyDeleteMy highest intelligence is musical. Looking at this result, I think it matches me perfectly. I grew up in a musical family and learned the piano when I was about 5 or 6 years old. One career that was suggested is a musician. My passion for music has certainly not changed and there have been a few times where I have thought about pursuing music after I was out of high school. The second highest intelligence is spatial. I think this result was accurate as well. I am very detail oriented and like to be creative. The one career that instantly caught my eye was a fashion designer. I am very interested in multiple things, and at one point I thought about going to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising because I was truly interested in becoming a fashion designer. These two careers definitely aren’t off my list of careers to pursue, but I know it will take a lot of hard work to be accomplished in either careers.
ReplyDeleteMy most important value in life is staying true to myself. I’ve come across people who pretend or be something they are not and get caught up in messes. I’ve experienced that before and it’s so much stress and work to be something I’m not. I think it’s important to have this value because there’s so much pressure in society to behave a certain way and sometimes it’s best to be yourself. Sometimes when you don’t stay true to yourself, you become unhappy. I think the first step to happiness is being yourself because how can you be truly happy if you are not yourself?
ReplyDeleteI agree that the path to happiness is knowing who you are and what are your personal strengths. The challenge is matching these qualities to a career. You are on the path to figuring this out.
DeleteI like the most important value that you have chosen for your self. I think that is a great way to think. Always be true to yourself and never change for anyone because you will be miserable. I know exactly the feeling of getting caught up being someone else for a moment that you forget who you really are. I would rather be myself then anyone else and I will never change for anyone again. It honestly is the key to happiness. Just be yourself. I defiantly feel that pressure from society trying to mold people into everyone else without being original or true to yourself and I don't think thats how people should live.
DeleteEverybody try to make the right and an important decision in her/his life which can have a vital effect in their future. One of the most important decision I have made is related to my education. When we came to United States, my family pushed me to studying and to have a certificate. A very successful decision I made is by deciding to major in electrical engineering. I believe the education is the way to a successful life. Now, I can discover more things that were unknown to me and I can use these discoveries to lead my life into the right way.
ReplyDeleteEngineering is difficult, but a great career with many opportunities for employment and good salary.
DeleteThe most important value for me is the family . my children are the most thing in my life I can not imagine my life with out them they are all my life and they never left me alone they are my whole life I see the world through their eyes and they give me the happiness when I am sad. for that I went to college again I want them to be prod of me .and they always beside me and help when ever I need them and they give me the true love for that I think the family is the most important in my life.
ReplyDeleteI agree that family and children are very important. Your children will also see education as important since you are going to college.
DeleteThe most important value in my life is my family. I honestly do not know where I would be without their support. They support me with the decisions I make even if it's not in their favor. They have been my protectors and have provided me with everything I could possibly need. They raised me with respect and taught me rights from wrongs. They taught me how to love and what true love really means. They are people that I can always turn to and know me better than anyone. I wouldn't trade my family for the world and am grateful for such a caring family. This value will help me with my future career because they will guide me into the right decision.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that your family is so supportive.
DeleteThe most important value in my life is my happiness. Happiness is something everyone wants. Whether that be at a job, with themselves, with a partner, or just in life. I feel like if you aren't happy with your job or what you are doing then you just simply aren't where you are meant to be or supposed to be in that moment, but it completely depends on no one but you, only you can tell if you are truly happy or you are just making excuses for yourself. Along with happiness comes other things but another thing that is really important to me is family. My family, personally, is really big, and I will always have someone to turn to if I need it, which is the best feeling you can have honestly, and that makes me really happy. I come from the most loving parents that have blessed me with everything. And that makes me really happy.
ReplyDeleteMy experiences in college have mostly been really good. I have applied a lot from this class and it is actually benefiting me a lot. I like how this course is something that I kind learn more about myself, and see my best career options based on my personality, I think that is the best feature of this source. Another thing that is very unique is how this source is something that it gives me tips to do better in college which is the best thing ever. I really love this class and I am so happy I took it my first year in college rather than waiting and taking it just because I need to graduate.
So happy to hear that you are enjoying this course and finding it helpful. You are off to a good start.
DeleteMy highest multiple intelligences are enterprising, social, and artistic. Some good career options for these are managerial positions that have a big say in what a company can be creative with their products. I really like this because I like having my thoughts valued and I really like being a part of the change or success in things. I also am confident that I can be successful in a manager position because I have been a team captain for years and president of clubs as well. I have had the practice and leadership skills and am positive that I can take on the responsibility to be successful in a position as so. With this said, I do also think i can be successful as a real estate agent, another option that the assessment named off for me, but I would be more comfortable if I had a job that requires a bit more education as a background.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most important values in my life is happiness. If you are not living life happily, what are you doing? Everyone is in charge of their own happiness, it's an inside job that you have full power over. I appreciate having this value because it reminds me that the decisions I make now may affect my happiness in the future. It motivates me to stay committed and motivated in being successful. It also makes things a lot easier to go through. If I have a positive mind, I believe I can do anything. I wish more people could easily just focus on the positive and move forward, but we all get so nervous about the "what if's". That's a waste of time - it'll drive us out of our minds.
ReplyDeleteYou have the right attitude to be successful and accomplish your goals. We will learn more about happiness in the last chapter. Each person has to think about what happiness means to them and then work to achieve it.
DeleteMy college experiences so far have been interesting. I have had to get used to how the teachers grade and their expectations for the class. Also, I had a few financial problems not being able to buy supplies or tools needed for the class in time. Another thing was time management, because I needed to find a balance and time for when I can study and do homework. Other than that college has been fun, I met many new people, and I have great teachers that lead me in the direction of success. I have been able to use some of the things I learned in this class, in college mainly from the DWYA report. I used what I learned from it to try to improve my personality, by being more open-minded and trying to share my ideas with others.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are finding this course useful.
DeleteOne of most important value to me is being true to myself. I believe that the best way to achieve ultimate happiness is being authentic. I am very honest, I will not change my ways or opinions to work with others or make somebody like me. Being open, honest, and real has set me up to be successful not only in my social life but my work life as well.Being true to myself allows me to take a step back and look at anything I am doing, saying, or even wearing to make sure it is me. Trying to be myself correlates with holding honesty to a high standard as well. "Honesty is the best policy" is very true when it comes to myself and personality.
ReplyDeleteMy experience is college so far is good. I would say that it is way different then I expected going from high school to college. Taking seven classes this semester I learned to manage my time better, be more organized, and learned to make rational decisions about not going out when I have homework to do. Last year, I would do all my work but I would do homework 20 minutes before class, or go out when I had a test. This year has transformed me into a way more responsible person and gave me a reality check that there are no more excuses . I get things done before hand because now I am on a tight schedule and I would rather use my time to sleep or workout then rush things in the last minute.
ReplyDeleteYou must be really organized to take seven courses! Getting things done early is the key to managing all this.
DeleteVery interesting Sandra, i have the same experience as you. I would say it was much different than highschool but in a better way.And wow 7 classes thats amazing you really are learning to manage your time wisely! Im sure organization and rational decisions also play a major key in your effort to transfer.Haha you used to do homework 20 minutes before class that is funny. But im glad you changed for the better its important to stay ontop of your work in college. Hope to hear more from you and your experiences later! Great blog by the way!
DeleteMy college experience so far has been long. I have changed my major now three times. First I wanted to be a interpreter so I started taking American Sign Language classes. I was almost finished with it. I have two more classes left to get my associates. I then decided to change my major. I thought I was set on this major I thought I would never change my mind. That was to work with kids, ever since I was little I loved kids and my family would always say "wow you're going to be an amazing mom when you're older". I still want to work with kids but not as a teacher. I realized I loved kids still but working in a school is not for me. Now I want to be a marriage and family counselor. So I will still be working with children but in a different setting.
ReplyDeleteA decision I made that has been unsuccessful that was against my values is just quitting my major and moving on to something else. I have done that twice now. I was raised to never quit on anything not school or sports. Unfortunately I quit American Sign Language when I was so close to finishing it. My parents want me to just take those two classes and have that be my minor. I just don't think I will be able to pass because I am VERY rusty with Sign Language now I don't think I remember a lot of it because I never use it. Then I'm doing it again I was almost finished with my child development major. I only have like seven more classes left to get my associates in child development but I'm changing my major yet again. I really hope I can figure out what I want to do so I don't change my major again.
ReplyDeleteI can understand what you are going through as I have had several family members experience it as well. It is tough to choose a major, and once you've chosen one, it would be quite easy to go back and forth. What makes it such a difficult decision is that your major may dictate what you will be doing for a large majority of your life, and it is hard when you do not feel completely comfortable with it. Sometimes you just have to ask yourself questions such as "Does this career suit the type of person I am?" Going through and understanding what you are interested in doing is what will help you achieve your life goals and improve your values.
DeleteIt is common for students to change their majors a few times. It is better to change than dislike your future career.
DeleteMy most important value in life is my family. I was born in Iraq, and traveled to the United States with my family as a child to further my education and obtain a better lifestyle that suits common needs. My family consists of the people that I lived with all my life, and the ones that I grew up with, and they mean the world to me. I always keep my relations with my family members close, and we help each other as we struggle in life to achieve our goals. My family's support is something that I highly value because that will have a high effect on my life goals and accomplishments. Love, care, and support are the key terms I would say in describing my family and what they provide.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that your family has been so supportive. I'm sure you will make them proud.
DeleteMy highest multiple intelligence is musical, second is bodily kinesthetic, and third is intrapersonal. Some careers tat would go with these are musician, athelete, surgical technologist, sound engineer technician, dentist, orthodonoist, and physicists. I found these to be less accurate towards what I wanted to do then the personality careers that were suggested from "Do What You Are" test.
ReplyDeleteAll these assessments are beginning points for thinking about who you are and what are your personal strengths. Use the results from the Do What You Are if they seem more accurate.

ReplyDeleteMy experience with college so far has been alright. Right now i'm between careers of being an engineer or an architectural drafter. College has made me learn to be independent and to ask for stuff. In life things aren't handed to you. If you want nice things in life you got to put in work to achieve the goal. When I was in highschool everything was handed to me and now I realize great things in life come with hard work and not expressing the thought of giving up for the goal you want to achieve. I learned most about life in this class and to apply this into my life has made a difference .
ReplyDeleteConsider civil engineering. It combines engineering and architecture. There are good opportunities in this field.
DeleteThe most value thing in life is honesty. To have this value in life I believe all good things will come your way and your life will be better. Honesty in life will create opportunities and make you a better person. When you do something wrong wouldn't you want to know the truth instead of a false statement? Of course you would this is why the truth will make you a better person and you’ll become stronger. Instead of sugar coating mistakes or events you did just tell the truth because it won't make problems. This is the thing I value in my life.
ReplyDeleteWrite about your experiences in college so far. Have you been able to apply anything learned in this class
ReplyDeleteMy college experience has been the best two years of my life. I have learned a lot of the world and myself. I been focus and motivated. The only problem is that I was not sure about whether I was going to major in math or physics. After reading chapter 3, I came to a conclusion that I will go for a math major. Also, I want to pair a math degree with an economic degree. I came to realized that I always talk and read books about business and the like with my friend, but never put to much though into a degree in economics until now. Lately I been excited about my decision. I just need to go talk with a counselor to make sure that I'm taking the right classes.
What are your highest interests as described by the Interest Profiler in this chapter? How do these interests match your career choice or the major you are considering? Interests include realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional.
ReplyDeleteMy highest interest by the interest profiler is enterprising, investigative, and social. Since read this chapter, I decided on a math major with economics. I realized that I wan to do business. I want to build companies and run them. Then when I saw the results form the interest profiler, I was in agreement with the results. I don't want to sound shallow, but I want to be wealthy and I don't just want to make a salary, I want to make a lot of money. I'm exited. I'm really am about this choice. I wan to understand how money works and from there be able to put my experience to create successful business.
Math and economics sounds like a good match for you and there are opportunities for good pay in this field. See a counselor to make sure you are taking the correct courses.
DeleteMy three highest scores were Interpersonal, Existential and Intrapersonal. On the one hand, this did not come as a surprise to me, since I love people and usually have a good understanding of how they may be feeling. On the other hand, I never really thought of this ability as anything too special or out of the ordinary, so it was an intriguing thing to consider. I am the middle kid of six (three older siblings and 2 younger siblings), so a lot of these communication skills, and conflict resolution skills were survival growing up :) I never was one to want to stir the pot. The careers recommended for me are all on connecting with people, which is something I really love.
ReplyDeleteA career working with people would match this valuable talent.
DeleteQ.Write about your experiences in college so far. Have you been able to apply anything learned in this class?
ReplyDeleteA. Getting back into the swing of college has been overwhelming. I am taking 12 units and balancing parenting, marriage and a part time job along with it. This class has helped me gain confidence that I really can do this. I have appreciated having a class that is interesting, practical and fun. Plus, it is great for the GPA ;) It is fun to self examine and see where my strengths can best be used. It has also been good to consider where my weaknesses should not be emphasized. I really enjoyed learning about different personality types. I have found each chapter to have helpful practical reminders of how to be a good student. This class has just been a delight. It has certainly helped me gain confidence this first semester!
So glad that you are finding this course useful.
DeleteMy experience in college so far has been great. I enjoy my classes and I feel like I've learned a lot since being in school. This class so far has helped me a little bit in school on seeing the way I am with studying and with my personality type, in how I like to study. How I am as a person like the way I like to be organized and I learned to manage my time a little better as well. I believe the most important value in my life is to be a good person I want to center my career on helping people by being a nurse and I just want to be a good person. I think all my other values go side by side with this most importune t value.
ReplyDeleteNursing is a great career that will match your desire to help people.
DeleteI have learned a lot of things in my time before highschool but i can honestly say that college has taught me so much in such a little amount of time. Things that i havent learned in my previous years in school. For example , college has taught me new things about organization and effort. No procrastination and steady work. Education wise i havent learned much to be honest but the actual techniques and strategies im using for college is whats making this such a learning experience for me. I hope this journey continues and my learning experiences are endless.
ReplyDeleteYou are off to a good start in college and have successfully made the transition from high school. Good job!
DeleteMy college experience so far is going pretty well. I knew that it was not going to be the same as high school. I knew that I was going to have to be independent and start taking classes that I want and basically start my future. When I first started college I was nervous and thought it would be hard, but after my first year, I liked it and I was ready to take on the second year. This class has taught me a lot so far and has prepared me for the future. I cannot wait to finish this semester and gain new information to help me succeed in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that you have a positive attitude toward school. This will help you to achieve your goals.
DeleteMy experience in college so far has been eventful. This semester, I am taking a course in which I am not the best in. Though, since it is a pre-requisite for the major that I was thinking about selecting as my own, I have decided to push through with it and try my best. Surpisingly, I was already able to use something from this class and apply it to my professor. I have come to realize that the way that he teaches just does not meet my requirements to be a successful teacher-student teaching/learning environment. I am hoping that I can overcome my obstacles and still be successful in his class!
ReplyDeleteIt is helpful to understand your professor's personality type and to understand what he or she expects. Unfortunately we will have professors in important courses that we might have difficulties in learning, but students need to figure out how to deal with this and be successful in spite of the learning environment.
DeleteWhat are your highest multiple intelligences and what careers do they suggest?
ReplyDeleteMy highest intelligence are existential and naturalist. I do agree with my results because these describe my intelligence of how I react toward things in social life. I get involved with the outside world like environment and living objects. I find them interesting because I like to know the concepts of how they work in their ways. My intelligence depends on my personality of how I view myself as. It is hard to learn about other things that are not related to my own intelligence, but I try and put my time into them, so I can build up the facts and evidences. Also, my third highest intelligence is Bodily-Kinesthetic and I highly agree with this. I am good at drawing and solving puzzle. Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence are skilled at using their body to convey feelings and ideas. They suggested a therapist or psychologist. Investigative where I found my matching career and that is a therapist.
What is your most important value in life and how are you acting on this value to achieve your life goals?
ReplyDeleteMy most important values in my life are having good metal health, good relationship with family and friends, and achieving my goals. It is important to me because this is what I am living for, and I am trying to make something out of this life. Having good metal health, it will help me to choose the right paths, and it will comfort me to be a good person. If I don't have a good metal health mind, I will be confused what I want to do in this life, and how I will be achieve any goal. Other than that, having good relationship with family and friends is important of how to receive love and care form these people. Achieving my goals will make me happy for what I have done to earn this value. Focusing on the important values will help many people to be educated and healthy. So, I am choosing these three values out of all the values in the life because I think these are the most important things to me.
What are your highest multiple intelligences and what careers do they suggest?
ReplyDeleteMy highest multiple intelligences are Bodily-Kinesthetic , Linguistic, and interpersonal. These traits suggest I should be an athelete, artist(photographer, designer, etc.) or a career dealing with people (Customer service, etc.).
What is your most important value in life and how are you acting on this value to achieve your life goals?
My most important value in life is the feelings of those I love. I am acting upon this value by using it to motivate myself to get a degree and well paying job in order to someday support my family.
Recently, an unsuccessful decision that I have made was to be the one in charge of sending out a care package to my friend who is stationed in South Dakota. He saw me as trustworthy and it did not math my value of being truthful. I had no convenient or easy way to ship his package to him and lied and told him I had everything under control. I have felt and still feel so much guilt for that. I care for this friend deeply since we have known each other and I feel like I have let him down, but I hope I can make it up to him and can figure out how to make this even align with my values again. I fear that the only way that can happen will be if I tell him the truth of my situation without excuses and passing the blame.
